La Barcelona Design Week returns from June 8 to June 14. This international event, organized by BCD Barcelona Design Center, once again brings together companies, designers, entrepreneurs and other agents from the business, innovation and creativity field, and is open to citizens to bring creative industries closer to the general public .
Under the slogan Design is here !, the 10th edition of BDW has a special program that includes more than 70 activities, from conferences, exhibitions and workshops, to presentations, circuits and networking activities. Among others, stand out the inaugural conference 'Design in Tech' with Jackie Xu and John Maeda; the exhibition 'Timeless Massimo Vignelli'; the presentation of the Food Design project; the Ecodesign Day: the fixers movement, and the first edition of the 'Design is Future Congresstival'. Likewise, the BDW will have the participation of 10 international Design Weeks.
The Food Design Event will be a space for experimentation and dialogue to learn about the creative process applied in a project created for BDW by Guillem Oliva (Monvínic) and Martín Azúa.
The 'Timeless Massimo Vignelli' exhibition, a project curated by the creative studio Husmee, is made up of a selection of posters made by internationally renowned graphic designers, as well as products designed by Vignelli. The exhibition can be visited at the Disseny Hub Barcelona from June 8 to August 31.
This year's Ecodesign Day consists of a keynote and a practical session on design and sustainability, in which the 'fixer' movement will be discussed by Kyle Wiens, CEO of ifixit, a Californian company that has turned this new trend based on repair in a very profitable business.
In addition to other activities such as the BDW Workshops and the Design Circuits, the program will be completed with the OFF BDW, which includes more than 30 parallel multidisciplinary activities organized by entities, companies and establishments that will open the BDW to the city.
Barcelona Design Festival
Barcelona Design Week will open the doors of the fifth edition of the Barcelona Design Festival, a great event organized by BCD Barcelona Design Center and the FAD Fomento de las Artes y del Diseño, with the support of the Barcelona City Council. From June 8 to July 5, it promotes design in the citizen, professional and business spheres, with the aim of making the potential of Catalan companies and professionals visible, to help them compete on an international scale.
Congresstival 'Design is Future'
One of the main novelties of this edition of Barcelona Design Week is the creation of a new event focused on innovation through design. Using a format that mixes the concepts of 'congress' and 'festival', from June 11 to 13, the BDW will host the first edition of the “design is future: innovation through design congresstival ', which was created with the aim of enhancing the economic and social value of design. The program, made up of conferences, round tables and networking activities, is divided into three thematic blocks through which new approaches to design will be explored from the perspectives of the profession, business and society.
