In this edition of the contest organized by the Spanish Packaging Association of Graphispack Association and the fair hispack of Fira de Barcelona, ​​122 works from companies and schools from all over Spain have been presented. After evaluating each product, the jury has awarded 30 awards in the specialty of packaging, 12 in the POS section three en Young Design

Among the winners in the different categories of the packaging specialty are, for example, several "bag in box" solutions to contain bottled water, ceramic inks or a large volume of liquids for maritime transport; compostable coffee capsules whose packaging is also biodegradable; Sleeves sustainable to dress bottles of distillates; dairy preparation containers that replace labels with relief engravings; waterproof paper trays for fresh and frozen products; or cardboard packs for hamburgers and sandwiches capable of toasting bread in the microwave. Another of the award-winning innovations is a 100% recyclable and reusable monomaterial stopper used during the fermentation process of sparkling wines in the bottle.

This year the packaging for transport and logistics gains importance. There are many award-winning works linked to this specialty that mainly use cardboard and solve different processes, improving protection and promoting material savings and recycling. From palletizers and coil stabilizers, to "tamper-proof" packaging for e-commerce, through modular packaging, adaptable to different sizes for lamps or juice machines. Also reusable plastic pallets with skids that increase the load capacity; boxes that are assembled with a single movement, improving productivity in the factory and warehouse, or specific packaging for the transport of citrus fruits or fish.

In general, there is a trend to reduce the use of plastic and the quantity and weight of the material used, betting on cardboard or mono-material solutions. Ecodesign is also taken more into account with the aim of improving ergonomics, replacing superfluous elements, and gaining sustainability in the logistics chain. Graphics and printing continue to be key in packaging as a visual claim to connect with the consumer and the factor of sustainability is also introduced in this process with ecological inks and varnishes.

Among the award-winning companies there are some with more than one Liderpack such as Smurfit Kappa who has achieved six International paper y flexomed, three each; either Alfilpack Packaging Solutions, Font Packaging to veil, two. The rest of the award-winning companies are: Autajon Durero Packaging, Danone, Al Margen Branding & Packaging, Enplater, ITC Packaging, Carobels Cosmetics, Salló, Garrofé, Plasgad, Hinojosa Packaging Group, Omnipack Fizzy Caps.

Among all the winners in the packaging section, the organizers have selected seven works that, under the sponsorship of Hispack and Graphispack Association, will participate representing Spain in the WorldStar for Packaging 2023, the most important container and packaging contest in the world whose decision will be made public next December. Its about sleeve sustainable Rua Vieja de Ovelar; International Paper's sealed fish box; the Goliath Box citrus box from Smurfit Kappa; Font Packaging Group's 4Liquids sea freight carton liquid container; Plasgad's rigid, light and robust plastic pallet; the self-heating suceptor container "Naturtilla" by Flexomed and the single-material and sustainable flexible packaging Retortpack by Enplater.

Young Design

In the category for students, to which 15 finalist projects of the XII National Prizes for Design and Sustainability of Packaging and Packaging convened by the Cluster of Innovation in Packaging and Packaging, three prizes have been awarded. They have taken a Liderpack: fruit bite, a small cardboard tray for ready-to-eat fruit that allows you to store remains such as seeds, leaves or skin; IMANtap, a reusable flap with magnets for wipes packs and “W-BOT”, large-format water bottles that fold as they are emptied. In this section, students of the University of Zaragoza and Jaume I University of Castellón. The three award-winning projects in the “Young Design” category automatically participate in the WorldStar Student Awards.

Liderpack - Popai Awards to POS

In the specialty of PLV, 12 projects will receive a Liderpack-Popai Award, award recognized by SHOP! the Global Association of Marketing and Retail, represented in Spain by Popai Spain, and which gives these works greater visibility in the foreign market. The works of PLV awarded this year are committed to exhibitors in large format, repliChanging the packaging of the products they present to achieve a greater visual impact at the point of sale. They are resistant elements, easy to assemble and transport, enabled to contain product units and manufactured with sustainable and light materials such as cardboard and wood, as well as printed in an ecological way.

The winners include floor displays with giant replicas of a soda can, a dispenser for skin care products, a facial serum or a bottle of capsules; a piece of furniture to present bottles of wine, desktop displays to test fragrances in perfumeries, or POS elements to present dishwasher tablets, ecological cleaning products, sun protection creams or sports shoes for playing tennis.

With five awards, the company Adaequo SL It has been the great winner in the PLV specialty; followed by Total Display y dgé-plv with two distinctions each. They complete the list of award-winning firms Iberian Altavia; WDi y Sallo.
