Dilograf Labels carries out a series of Dialogues with ECO format Espaitec's to report on sustainable actions by different companies. In the fourth episode of Dialogues with ECO, Sandra Mercé, its Communications Director, talks with Jordi Aycart, Iberian Head of Supply Chain & Sustainability at Nestlé.
They both spoke about how a global company like Nestlé addresses sustainability from the perspective of Creating Shared Value, integrating impact on people, the planet and the business.
“For Nestlé, creating shared value means generating value for the company, for society, and for the planet in which we operate. More than a one-off initiative, this approach is an integral part of our business strategy,” says Jordi Aycart.
At Nestlé, they work on three pillars in an integrated way. The first pillar Good for you It is focused on the continuous improvement of its products. Good for the Planet It is structured around three major sustainability priorities: reducing the carbon footprint, promoting regenerative agriculture and fostering circularity in packaging, along with reducing food waste. Good for Communities It focuses on supporting the people who are part of its value chain.
Reducing emissions and the energy transition are part of Nestlé's roadmap. Since 2018, Nestlé's factories in Spain have managed to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by around 36%.
Regarding packaging, they apply the principles of ecodesign. This involves reducing the amount of material used and designing packaging that is reusable or recyclable. Currently, at Nestlé Spain, 97% of their packaging is designed to be recycled or reused. “Packaging is part of a broader strategy that seeks to balance functionality, safety, and environmental responsibility within a comprehensive vision of sustainability,” concludes Jordi Aycart.
