Iberian Cartonplast has delivered his 5th Sustainability AwardsThese awards aim to recognize the packaging and glass manufacturers in the food and beverage sector that contribute most to generating a positive environmental impact. This year, in addition to the usual food and beverage packaging categories, Cartonplast has added a special New Projects award to recognize companies that have incorporated plastic interlayers into their operations.
This year's award winners are: BA Glass, in the Stained Glass category for its firm commitment to the use of reusable interlayers; Félix Solís Avantis Group, in the Large Packer category; Vichy Catalan Corporation, in the Water Bottler category; Angel Camacho Group, in the Food Packaging category; and Pernod Ricard Group, in the New Projects category.
The ceremony took place at a gala held at the Empack trade fair, in which he participated as a guest. José Luis Morato Senior Principal at Miebach, with the presentation 'Economic and Environmental Sustainability: TCO and LCA'. “Sustainability in the supply chain is something to take very seriously because it can make a big difference to a company's emissions balance. Efficiency must be improved, new models tested, and plastic should not be a source of fear. Change is not easy, but having a specialized and experienced partner like Cartonplast certainly makes a positive difference,” Morato stated.
The jury composed of Belen Fernandez, director of PACKNET – Spanish Technological Platform for Packaging; Teresa Martínez, Circular Economy Project Manager from Sintac; Cristina Duque, CIEC coordinator – MADRID; and Sandra NunesQuality & Environment Controller of Cartonplast Ibérica, has taken into account the good practices in the use and management of interleaving materials, trays and pallets, their returnability rate and, in particular, the total amount of emissions savings achieved thanks to this.
Throughout the five editions of the Cartonplast Sustainability Awards, the winning companies have already avoided the emission of a total of almost 400 tons of CO2. Specifically, the winners of this fifth edition have saved approximately 70 tons of CO2 during their operations in 2024.
Once again, Cartonplast is entrusting the prize in kind for this competition to Bosques Sostenibles (Sustainable Forests), who will plant a total of 250 trees on behalf of the winners. These trees will help them continue to offset their CO2 emissions and will absorb a total of 51.76 tons of CO2. This reforestation will take place in the area surrounding the Garganta de la Obreguilla gorge in Navalacruz (Ávila), which was severely affected by the wildfires last summer, with the aim of restoring and protecting these ecosystems of great value to our country.
Since the start of these Cartonplast Sustainability Awards, almost 1200 trees have been planted in the areas that are helping to absorb up to 140 tons of CO2. In addition, each of the winners has received a commemorative trophy.
