Boosting empty Spain with 0 km products
This expansion in its catalogue is part of the project "From the Forest to Your Home", which seeks to boost the rural economy through the sustainable use of non-timber forest resources, operating in various regions of the so-called empty Spain, such as Guadalajara, Albacete, Valencia, Teruel, Soria and Córdoba, through the sustainable use of its forests, as well as reactivating territories affected by depopulation and preventing the abandonment of ancestral uses.
Thanks to this project, Gaia&Coast is developing a line of zero-mile, Fair Trade food products in collaboration with local producers in Spain.
Fair Trade in food by Gaia&Coast
In parallel, Gaia&Coast also works with Ecuadorian producers through initiatives that support the development of a new range of 100% healthy products, including organic options, low in sugar and fat, and incorporating superfoods, produced according to Fair Trade principles.
Gaia&Coast's priority is based on the gradual promotion of organic production as part of its vision for the future, ensuring that food products are not harmful to people or the environment, and supporting producers in their transition to more sustainable practices.
In this sense, some producers have the resources to obtain organic certification, while others need time, technical support, and financial stability to achieve it. However, there is one requirement that is essential for Gaia&Coast: compliance with Fair Trade principles. To this end, we promote agricultural practices that are respectful of the environment, combat child exploitation, and promote gender equality, providing opportunities for women who are most excluded in these sectors.
