In 2021, Verallia will use 100% green electricity in all its plants in Iberia

January 26, 2021

Veralia, manufacturer of glass containers for food and drinks, takes a further step in its purpose towards sustainability by ensuring the green origin of 100% of its electrical energy consumption.

This renewable origin refers to the origin of non-fossil sources of the electricity consumed, such as wind, solar, aerothermal, geothermal, hydroelectric, biomass, bioliquid, and biogas energy among others.

Using only green electrical energy, Verallia will approximately reduce its carbon footprint 20%, corresponding to Scope 2, which are those CO2 emissions associated with the consumption of electrical energy.

In 2020, Verallia achieved EcoVadis Gold Medal, an internationally recognized CSR performance evaluation platform that examines companies in four categories: Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics and Responsible Procurement.

According to EcoVadis, the company has improved its performance this year by 5 points, achieving a score of 67/100, which allows Verallia to enter the 5% of the companies best evaluated by EcoVadis out of a total of 65.000 certified companies.

“This performance is in line with our sustainability purpose and is a reflection of our continuous improvement process. Using only electrical energy from renewable sources will considerably reduce the environmental footprint of our packaging ", he comments Paulo pinto, CEO of Verallia Spain and Portugal.
