Metsä Board, part of the Metsä Group, will open a new Packaging Design Studio in Milan in the summer of 2026.
“Located in one of Europe’s leading design capitals, the Milan studio provides the perfect environment for us to collaborate even more closely with our clients. The studio facilitates connection, experimentation with ideas, and the development of solutions that adapt to the rapidly changing packaging landscape,” he says. Erja Hyrsky, SVP, Commercial Operations.
Equipped with modern tools and advanced AI-based design and simulation technologies, the studio will optimize the delivery of workshops, design sprints, and co-creation sessions, especially in projects where sustainability goals, performance requirements, or regulatory changes drive the need for new solutions.
Bringing together packaging design, product development, and technical expertise in one place enables closer collaboration across the entire packaging value chain. The studio provides a space where knowledge, materials, and manufacturing requirements can be considered holistically, supporting clients in developing functional, ready-to-implement solutions.
“With the new studio in Milan, we have created a space where innovation, design and technical excellence converge,” he says. Ilkka Harju, Director Packaging Design Services“This allows us to collaborate closely with clients and partners on solutions that move efficiently from idea to implementation.”
The Milan studio complements Metsä Board's existing Center of Excellence in Äänekoski, Finland, which focuses on materials research, packaging performance testing and comprehensive packaging development, as well as the company's Packaging Design Studio in Norwalk, USA, which serves customers in North America.
