Within the framework of the International Forum organized by PEFC Japan, held on the occasion of the Expo 2025 Osaka/Kansai, PEFC Spain has signed, together with other national representatives of PEFC and PEFC International, as well as other organizations in Japan, the Osaka Joint DeclarationThis collective commitment reinforces the essential role of the forest certification in building a sustainable society, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Under the Expo theme, “Designing the society of the future for our lives,” the forum highlighted the importance of forests and certification systems as fundamental pillars for balanced economic and environmental development. The signed declaration reaffirms that systems like PEFC are not only a technical tool for ensuring sustainability, but also a transformative instrument for society and the market.
An international commitment to protect the world's forests
The declaration, signed on May 12 in Osaka, sets out three priority lines of action that will guide the joint work of the participating PEFC organizations:
- Expand the area of PEFC-certified forests worldwide, promoting sustainable forest management on a global scale.
- Promote the presence of certified raw materials and products in the markets, ensuring transparent traceability from the forest origin to the final consumer.
- Raise awareness among the general public about the importance of forest certification, promoting conscious and responsible consumption.
This pact has been endorsed by PEFC representatives from Denmark, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Thailand, Türkiye, Austria (virtually) and Spain, as well as PEFC International. It also received institutional support from the Japanese Forestry Agency and the Japan Association for Expo 2025.
