PHARMAP 2025

Sudden changes in demand, supply shortages and global collapse have put enormous pressure on the pharmaceutical logisticsTo address these challenges, PHARMAP 2025 brings together industry experts to discover AI-driven supply chain optimization, strategic logistics alliances, and digital solutions that improve efficiency and resilience in the pharmaceutical supply chain.

The pharmaceutical industry has long faced supply chain vulnerabilities, but the COVID-19 pandemic exposed and intensified these challenges. Disruptions resulting from accelerated clinical trials, shifts in manufacturing priorities, lockdowns, and ongoing raw material and labor shortages have significantly impacted the availability of medicinesAdditional factors, such as rising inflation and geopolitical instability, have placed further pressure on global supply chains, highlighting the urgent need for new strategies and technologies to ensure supply chain resilience.

According to Global Data, supply chain pressures have increased substantially since 2020, highlighting the need for reforms. However, its restructuring within the pharmaceutical sector presents unique complexities, as patient safety and product reliability must remain key priorities.

To address these issues, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Packaging Congress (PHARMAP) 2025, which will be held on the days April 14 and 15 in Berlin, includes a session dedicated to supply chain innovation. The conference annually brings together industry leaders to explore solutions to the sector's most pressing issues and share best practices from key market players.

One of the featured speakers, Christopher Pawlak, Senior Director of External Manufacturing at Bayer, will give a talk on AI and complexity management in supply chains. His presentation explores how AI-based technologies improve adaptability, predict disruptions, and implement strategic solutions. “We will examine case studies where AI has successfully optimized operations, reduced waste, and improved logistics decision-making in pharmaceutical manufacturing,” Pawlak said.

The debate also addresses the ethical considerations and challenges of integrating AI into pharmaceutical supply chains. Representatives of LEO Pharma, Marta Barletta (Senior Tactical Planner) and Giovanni Tocci (Tactical Planner), They delve into the role of AI in balancing supply chain needs, costs, and competitive pressure. They highlight how AI can optimize root cause analysis and scenario planning, helping companies improve plant performance and operational efficiency.

Another participant in the session is Hassan Jamaleddine, Supply Chain Director for the Middle East and North Africa at NewBridge Pharmaceuticals. He shares insights on how to choose the right third-party logistics (3PL) provider, outlining key selection criteria such as reputation, flexibility, technological capabilities, and sustainability. He also discusses how the right partnerships boost efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service quality.

Ekaterina Gerasimova, Head of Logistics at Takeda, She also participates in the discussion with a case study on the digital transformation of Takeda's supply chain. She highlights how the company integrates process automation, real-time data visibility, and simulation technologies to build a future-ready supply chain. "By leveraging digital tools, Takeda strengthens operational efficiency and resilience, ensuring the agility of its supply chain in an ever-changing landscape," Gerasimova noted.

As supply chain stability becomes an increasing concern for the pharmaceutical sector, PHARMAP 2025 provides a space for industry leaders to discuss innovative solutions, from AI-driven optimization to strategic partnerships with 3PLs and digital transformation initiatives. The conference explores effective approaches to ensuring efficiency, resilience, and innovation in pharmaceutical logistics.
