Tageos, a global leader in the design and manufacture of inlays and RFID tags innovative and high-performance, and part of the Fedrigoni Group, has announced the official opening of its new state-of-the-art research and development center in Munich, Germany. The Tageos Innovation Center of Excellence (ICoE) It is the company's response to strong market and customer demand for Promote the development of next-generation products and new applications in RFID, HF & NFC and the wireless Internet of Things (IoT)As an integral part of Tageos' existing R&D and innovation capabilities, the ICoE's areas of expertise also include specialized antennas for RFID inlays and tags, emerging RF technologies such as Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE), and the integration of flexible batteries, sensors, and other innovative components.
In addition to being a center for technological innovation, the ICoE will offer capabilities of Engineering-as-a-Service (EaaS), providing comprehensive support to customers and partners worldwide to optimize their product requirements both technically and commercially. Thanks to EaaS, Tageos enables the prototyping and industrialization of new products supported by highly qualified and experienced teams capable of designing, manufacturing, and testing items in small quantities. Large-scale production will be seamlessly transferred to Tageos' certified facilities in France, the United States, and China, which currently have an annual production capacity of over 11.000 billion units. Additional EaaS services include project consulting, application engineering, technical process optimization, and programming and implementation support to ensure optimal technical and commercial adaptation.
Tageos' new ICoE joins the Fedrigoni Group Innovation Center in Verona, Italy, laying the foundations for a new European hub, pioneering the exploration of cutting-edge technologies in RFID, IoT, and smart materials for labels and packaging. RFID is increasingly strategic for Fedrigoni, which is leveraging all possible synergies with its two core business areas. The sectors served by the Group—from luxury to the pharmaceutical industry, including wines and spirits, food, beauty, and FMCG—are increasingly seeking innovations that enable authentication, brand protection, traceability, and a better customer experience.
Overall, the new ICoE represents a significant commitment by Tageos in terms of innovative strength, product development, technical resources, and human capital. The Munich region is known as a technology hub with a dynamic ecosystem, a key factor in the decision to choose its location. The new R&D center, which covers over 700 m² and currently employs approximately 15 employees, represents a multi-million-euro investment and will further strengthen Tageos' strategy of accompanying and supporting customers and business partners within the RFID and wireless IoT ecosystem. Together with the headquarters in Montpellier, France, and other production facilities in Fletcher, USA, and Guangzhou, China, the Innovation Center of Excellence in Munich sends a clear signal of Tageos' intention to maintain and expand its pioneering role and market leadership.
Tageos will also offer extensive testing and expanded support in the new ICoE to help customers scale their own production processes for high-volume manufacturing of NFC and RFID tags or other connected physical objects with integrated inlays. This service will be available for both small trial runs and large-scale production.
With the increasing adoption of RFID technology across various sectors, the demand for new formats and materials has also increased. Printed antennas, for example, represent a cutting-edge innovation that enables the creation of ultra-thin, flexible, cost-effective, and sustainable RFID inlays for smart labels and packaging.
Marco Nespolo, CEO of the Fedrigoni Group, stated that “As majority shareholders of Tageos, we are excited to celebrate the opening of this new state-of-the-art R&D center, a symbol of our combined strength in innovation.
