UPM Adhesive Materials has received RecyClass recognition for its general-purpose removable adhesive RW85C. In addition to previous approvals, labeling materials using RW85C adhesive are now recognized as removable for HDPE (high-density polyethylene) container recycling and as alkaline/water-removable adhesives for PET bottle recycling.
This means that approved label materials can be recycled in natural and white HDPE recycling streams, as well as PET bottles, further improving recyclability and supporting the circular economy.
“Thanks to RecyClass’s extensive research, label material manufacturers can now transparently demonstrate that their labels do not hinder the recyclability of HDPE and PET packaging. The quality of this recycled, natural, and white material can be guaranteed with the right labeling material, which also includes the appropriate adhesive technologies, thus driving the circular economy and improving sustainability. Brands will be able to use UPM Adhesive Materials’ technology approvals to certify their packaging with RecyClass,” says Santeri Marjamäki, Ecosystem Manager for EMEIA at UPM Adhesive Materials.
