Verdifresh advances its sustainability strategy through packaging

verdifresh, which is part of foodiverse (a leading European group specialising in fresh and healthy food with a presence in 16 countries), has implemented a comprehensive strategy of sustainability and eco-design criteria in its packaging as an innovative and responsible company. Maria Forcada, Innovation Director of verdifresh, has highlighted the company's commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its packaging, stating that a 92% of the plastics used by the company are now 100% recyclable.

The 82nd Cluster Breakfast, which has had the support of the Department of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Generalitat Valenciana and has been held in ESIC Business & Marketing School, has begun with the intervention of Angel GarrigosDirector of Admissions and Marketing, who has highlighted that being part of the Cluster's activities represents an important contribution of value for the institution.

During breakfast, verdifresh He shared with the attendees that, as part of its strategy, the company has promoted the optimization of materials through a specific improvement plan for each one, where industrialization tests have played a fundamental role, allowing the detection and resolution of possible problems before the implementation of new materials.

Among the notable advances is the use of PLA (polylactic acid) combined with kraft, a material that reduces dependence on traditional plastic and offers a more sustainable alternative.

On the other hand, the company has revealed some of the milestones in its packaging strategy, including the reduction in the thickness of polypropylene (PP) plates by 20%, the introduction of bamboo forks, the replacement of EVOH with high-barrier PET, and the optimization of thicknesses in PET trays.

Finally, the company has highlighted the importance of educating the end customer, stressing the need for consumers to recycle packaging and also know which container to place it in.

Ayming opens the door to decarbonisation

The Innovation Breakfast also had the participation of Carlos Rodríguez-Trelles, Territorial Business Manager at Ayming, who highlighted the consultancy's strategic and tailored approach to supporting companies from various sectors in optimising their processes and developing innovative solutions to improve their competitiveness.

For its part, Donia Razazi, Aid Manager and Industry Expert at Ayming, presented to the attendees the PERTE for Decarbonization, a key initiative to support the manufacturing industry in its transition towards more sustainable production models, aligned with the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. It also detailed the operation of the Energy Saving Certificate (CAE), an instrument that allows companies to monetize the savings obtained through improvements in energy efficiency, thus encouraging investment in more sustainable technologies.

Training opportunities for the sector

During the Innovation Breakfast, Pepe MonfortResponsible for Business Development at ESIC, has presented the training opportunities available to members of the Cluster.  

In addition, he highlighted the training offer planned for the months of April and May, highlighting a PIDD-SUPERIOR MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, a SUPERIOR SALES PROGRAM and a SUPERIOR LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN ​​PROGRAM. Monfort also presented a digital transformation program subsidized by European funds, which has already trained more than 150 companies in digital skills, generating talent and accompanying them in their digital transformation.

To close the event, Jesus Perez, Director of Cluster of Container and Packaging, has awarded the recognition to the associate of the month, which in this case has fallen to Pedro Ortega, Head of Marketing, Events and Training at SACMI, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the association.
