A Tetra Pak solution reduces water use and carbon emissions

June 9th, 2021

Tetra pak has unveiled its new portfolio of solutions for UHT 2.0 heat treatment and its new Tetra Pak® E3 / Speed Hyper packaging equipment. These solutions respond to the dairy industry's urgent sustainability needs and its commitment to innovation to reduce its environmental footprint.

Implementation of Tetra Pak's new portfolio of UHT 2.0 solutions with OneStep technology, together with Tetra Pak® E3 / Speed Hyper equipment reduce water consumption and steam during the processing and packaging of the food while generating less wastewater, which contributes to reducing the costs associated with its subsequent disposal. For its part, the installation of a Tetra Pak® water filtering station, complementary to the Tetra Pak® E3 / Speed Hyper unit, helps producers to recover up to 5.500 liters of water per hour of operation of the filling machine ( up to 95%), while helping to reduce water consumption.

Alexander Cabal, Vice President of Packaging Solutions for Tetra Pak, says: “As part of our goal of achieving net carbon emissions across the entire value chain by 2050, we at Tetra Pak want to be part of the solution within the global dairy sector , helping to mitigate climate change. To achieve this, we have made it a priority to accelerate the development of low-carbon packaging equipment and solutions, while helping our customers achieve their emission reduction targets. A significant part of the emissions we generate comes from operations at our clients' plants, so innovation and cooperation are key on this path to decarbonisation ”.

Tetra Pak® E3 / Speed Hyper is the aseptic carton filling machine fastest in the world, producing up to 40.000 units per hour, using eBeam6 sterilization technology to complete the task more efficiently and quickly than previously possible. Thus, the environmental impact is reduced and water recycling facilitates, combining high-speed production at low cost with significant benefits for the environment. Represents an alternative low carbon to aseptic PET equipment, since electricity consumption and carbon footprint are five times lower.
