Actega participates in Metpack 2026 (May 5-8, 2026, Messe Essen, Germany), where it will exhibit its new products.
Among Actega's proposals for next-generation coatings, ACTNext® and ACTEcoat® stand out; solutions geared towards sustainability, such as the Artistica bottom sealers for water-based beverages; and industry firsts, such as the PVC and plasticizer-free Provalin compounds, and the Innocan digital printing technology with offset quality.
For applications such as general-purpose cans, aerosols, drums, lids, and the exterior surfaces of certain food cans, the next-generation ACTNext range of UV and UV/LED energy-curing coatings eliminates the need for large, energy-intensive drying ovens. This innovation addresses the industry's high energy consumption and environmental impact by substantially reducing carbon footprint and VOC emissions, while maximizing line efficiency without compromising surface quality or performance.
A highlight for food and beverage lids is Actega's Provalin portfolio of patented compounds for vacuum metal lids, the only proven solution in the industry free of PVC and plasticizers. Provalin is suitable for a wide range of food applications and is particularly well-suited for baby food.
Beverage closures
The introduction of regulations such as EU 2024/3190 marks a decisive shift regarding BPA-based coatings. Actega's BPA-NI and PFAS-NI coatings for crown caps and aluminum (long) caps meet regulatory requirements while providing reliable protection for demanding applications. Svelon 835 ULG enables the manufacture of ultra-low gauge (0,15 mm) crown caps, drastically reducing steel consumption and consequently lowering both costs and carbon footprint.
Actega's sustainable compounds offer a versatile solution for beverage closures, with different sustainable grades available, from reduced fossil fuel content to biodegradable concepts. Cost-effective.
Actega's Intellox family completes the portfolio of solutions by offering PVC-free compounds for crown caps that allow the secure integration of QR codes, while providing protection for the filling product thanks to oxygen removal technology.
Solutions for beverage and food cans
Actega also presents its Artística water-based beverage can sealants. Formulated with renewable raw materials and VOC-free, this range includes Artística RB1006 Z3, the first beverage can sealant to achieve Cradle to Cradle Material Health Platinum certification. Designed for beverage applications in two-piece aluminum cans, Artística sealants offer up to 20% material savings with the lowest dry film weights on the market, providing an advanced solution that reliably optimizes the entire operation.
ROTARflow is a technology that controls, adjusts, and monitors the amount of Artística water-based sealants applied to can ends directly at the point of application. This award-winning digital system reduces manual checks and specifications, minimizes waste, and streamlines quality control decision-making for can manufacturers, while giving brand owners greater confidence in consistent, high-quality results.
Along with these innovations, digitization opens up new possibilities for the design and production of metal packaging. Developed in collaboration with HP Indigo and Vislo, the unique Innocan technology enables cost-effective short and medium-run production thanks to offset-quality digital printing on metal. This process involves laminating a digitally printed film onto the metal sheet, which is then coated with Actega's dual-cure coatings, facilitating complete serialization and personalization.
Actega also offers ACTstar® special effects inks, suitable for indirect food contact and PTFE-free. The portfolio includes thermochromic, tactile, and fluorescent effects, enabling brands to deliver interactive sensory experiences that connect with consumers.
