AINIA recognizes the commitment of its associated companies to innovation

AINIA celebrated on June 25 his General Assembly in which the results obtained in fiscal year 2023 have been highlighted and the commitment to innovation of the companies that have completed 35 years as members of AINIA has been recognized. The event was attended by the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Nuria Montes, who presented these recognitions, together with the president of AINIA, Manuel Garcia-Portillo and the general director of AINIA, Christina Del Campo.

Recognition of associated companies

Within the framework of the AINIA General Assembly, the commitment to innovation of 17 companies associated with AINIA for more than 35 years has been recognized. The companies honored have been: Agrofresh, Aromas y Sabores SA, Candido Miro SAU, Chovi SL, Grupo Coviñas, Deoleo, Grefusa SL, Cerealto Imasdea, Importaco Casa Pons SAU, Indetec (Grupo Vento), Jesús Navarro –“Carmencita”, Linde Gas España SAU, Marshmallows International SLU, Mercavalencia, Citrosol, Roca Defisan y SE of Metallic Carbides.

La Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Nuria Montes, congratulated the recognized companies for their commitment to innovation and highlighted "the support of the Consell to promote industrial innovation and ensure that the number of innovative companies increases by 10%."

Nuria Montes has also highlighted the Consell's objective of promoting the circular economy with the adoption of measures such as "the reduction by 15% of the amount of industrial waste generated and the significant increase in the reuse of industrial waste."

In turn, the president of AINIA, Manuel García-Portillo, highlighted that “it is very gratifying to see that you have been working with us, for 35 years, on emblematic R&D&I projects, on technological assistance, on analytical tests and on tailor-made training adapted to your needs. In order to respond to the various needs, concerns and problems that you have raised with us through trust, and to be able to accompany you in your strategic approaches and market projection, we have had to address new challenges that have led us to grow, diversify and expand. our activity".

2023 financial year balance

AINIA closed the 2023 financial year with an 8% growth in its income, reaching 21,1 million euros, of which more than 60% corresponds to company income. This increase reflects the commitment and dedication of a team made up of more than 270 professionals and the trust of the 1.745 companies with which the center has worked, mainly belonging to the agri-food, chemical, cosmetics and packaging sectors.

In 2023, AINIA developed 286 R&D&I projects focused on five major challenges: food of the future, food quality and safety, health and well-being, green transition and digital transformation.

Its laboratories performed 110.000 analytical services, consolidating itself as the first agri-food laboratory in Spain with 160 tests accredited by ENAC. In addition, AINIA offered 1.900 hours of training, answered 350 food law consultations and carried out 154 studies with consumers.

The technology center invested more than three million euros in infrastructure and equipment for pilot plants and laboratories, highlighting the upcoming completion of the new Building 4, which will strengthen the center's R&D&I capacity.

strategic projects

Among the projects carried out last year, the AccelerEAT project, supported by the agri-food PERTE and financed with Next Generation EU funds, which includes 22 collaborative projects in R&D&I, sustainability and energy efficiency. Likewise, it was launched StartBEC program, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, to technologically support startups in the field of bioeconomy.

In addition, AINIA and REDIT Ventures established Fibtray Solutions SL, a new company dedicated to the development of sustainable packaging solutions for cardboard-based food.

Likewise, with the support of the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE), through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the center has developed 13 R&D projects in 2023 in which 30 companies from the Community have participated. Valencian.

Commitment to Sustainability

Within the framework of its 2023-2025 Sustainability Master Plan, AINIA has prepared its Sustainability Report according to GRI standards, and has measured the social impact of its activity at 380 million euros in 2023, achieving a return of €11,72 for every euro invested.

Talent management

According to the Bank of Spain report corresponding to the first quarter of 2023, the insufficient availability of professionals represents the third biggest concern of Spanish companies. This, together with new phenomena that are emerging such as the “great resignation” that occurred after the pandemic, “disengaged employees” or “quiet quitting”, make talent management increasingly more relevant among our companies.

Therefore, the day ended with the intervention of Juan Carlos Cubero, renowned expert in talent, leadership and coaching, who gave the conference “Attract, retain and develop talent: an innovative challenge.”

An interesting presentation on current topics such as the need to manage the gap that exists between traditional companies, less attractive for new generations, compared to other companies open to the future that adapt more to “new talent”, among other aspects.
