Andreu Palou wins the DuPont Prize for Science

Dr. Andreu Palou has been chosen the winner of the XXIII DuPont Prize for Science, whose theme this year has once again focused on the theme of Nutrition and Health.
The 2013 DuPont Prize jury unanimously decided to grant said award to Doctor Andreu Palou, professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of the Balearic Islands and Director of the General Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Nutrition and Biotechnology of the UIB, for his scientific contributions in the field of Molecular Nutrition: the body weight regulation system (Obesity); Leptin and the relationships between diet and (epi) genetics (Nutrigenomics and Personalized Nutrition); diet / disease mechanisms in relation to Food Safety and Efficacy, Functional Foods; and for the identification of healthy properties in food and of new biomarkers for the substantiation of European health claims (Health Claims) in food.
The President of the jury, Professor Santiago Grisolía, highlighted "Doctor Palou's commitment to addressing health through rich, balanced and personalized nutrition, and his outreach through international organizations."
The award ceremony, endowed with 30.000 euros, will take place, as usual, in the city of Oviedo at the beginning of 2014.
