Ardbeg, the distillery of Scotch Known for its intense and smoky Islay single malts, it launches its latest Limited Edition: Ardbeg Smokiverse.
With this release recently presented during Ardbeg Day, the distillery transports the palates of smoky whisky lovers to a new fruity dimension with Ardbeg Smokiverse. This Limited Edition It is the first whisky from the Islay distillery made from a high-density mash, resulting in a vibrant, tropical and especially fruity distillate.
The Ardbeg whisky team began experimenting a few years ago with the mashing process, in which malted barley is transformed into fermentable sugars. One of these experiments involved reducing the amount of water used in the mash tun, the vat where the maceration takes place. This unusual method intensified the presence of aromatic compounds, resulting in a fruitier and more tropical spirit. Aged in bourbon barrels, this Ardbeg reveals layers of muscovado sugar, ripe barley, and toasted sourdough bread, culminating in an explosion of ripe tropical fruits and sweet peat.
“This is the first of our whiskies to be mashed with less water. With Ardbeg Smokiverse, we've taken the distinctive smoky profile of our single malt to a new dimension of flavor. By increasing the gravity of the mash to unprecedented levels, we've managed to draw sweeter, fruitier notes from the depths of the mash tun. From the first sip, you can already perceive a vibrant explosion of fruity and smoky notes, almost like smoky bubblegum, accompanied by aromas of barley. Then, the peaty notes collide with juicy tropical fruits, before sinking into a rich depth of sugar,” says Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg Whisky Creation Director.
Smokiverse joins a long tradition of special releases to mark Ardbeg Day, which this year also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee, the “world’s most loyal whisky lovers’ club.”
