AIMPLAS, Technological Institute of Plastic, and the company from Jaén BANDESUR They are working on a project funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness within the 2015 Challenge-Collaboration call, which will allow the launch of two new product ranges on the market.

Specifically, they are innovative polypropylene trays heat resistant and microwave safe and suitable for biodegradable and compostable foamed PLA trays.

With a duration of 24 months, the project aims to increase the competitiveness of BANDESUR, a company located in Alcalá la Real (Jaén), specialized in the manufacture of polystyrene foam trays for the food sector.

On the one hand, work is being done on the development of a new generation of high-performance polypropylene foam trays. Thanks to its resistance to microwave heating, this new product range will allow BANDESUR to enter a market such as IV and V range ready meals. It is also a product that improves the performance of the existing offer in the market through sustainability, since being a foamed material it is much lighter than conventional ones.

On the other hand, the project involves the development of sustainable trays for fresh food. These are containers made from foamed PLA, which, in addition to reducing the weight of other products on the market, would achieve a biodegradable and compostable container that would allow BANDESUR to diversify its business geographically.
