Biobeauty, the first active and compostable container for natural cosmetics

November 16th 2016

A consortium of companies and research centers, led by ITENE (Technological Institute of Packaging, Transport and Logistics), has developed an innovative biodegradable container and active for natural cosmetic creams that manages to extend its expiration date up to a year and a half.

The new packaging is made of PLA (biodegradable material) reinforced with nanomaterials, and also incorporates a natural active agent with antioxidant properties.

It responds to the demand of the growing natural and organic cosmetics industry, which was looking for a container also made with renewable materials, which could contain this product without losing the durability of its creams.

This container complies with the European compostability standard EN 13432, which means that it can become a nutrient for the soil (compost). In addition to helping to reduce erosion and absorption of water and nutrients by plants.

BioBeauty is a project funded by the European Union through the 7th R & D & I Framework Program that has had representatives from five European countries: Spain, Scotland, Slovenia, the Netherlands and France.
