European Cosmetics launches an industry-wide initiative, Commit to Our Planet, con el objetivo de reduce the environmental footprint of the sector in Europe. Stanpa, the National Association of Perfumery and Cosmetics, has been around since the inception of this initiative that encourages all cosmetics and personal care companies to participate in a joint industry effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve packaging solutions and act for nature.

In addition to Stanpa, Spanish companies Puig, Martiderm, Salerm, Babaria and Natura Bissé, which has participated as a panelist in the round table representing the national business fabric, have been part of the group of pioneering companies to join the initiative. Total, twenty seven European companies have already committed to the Commit for Our Planet initiative and several national associations representing the cosmetics and personal care industry are supporting and promoting the initiative at the local level.

“While many cosmetics and personal care companies are already making significant environmental progress on their own, Commit for Our Planet aims to further raise the bar for sustainability across the sector by collectively intensifying and expanding efforts as an industry through of joint action", explained john chave, CEO of Cosmetics Europe. “We developed the initiative to be industry-wide, with commitments that can be tailored to all sizes and types of businesses, regardless of Cosmetics Europe membership or position on sustainability. This is to ensure there is an opportunity for everyone to help meet societal and planetary needs."

This initiative encourages all companies to participate in a joint effort promoting sustainability commitments across the industry that are inclusive, measurable and tailored to societal and planetary needs, around three key themes: climate, packaging and nature, which will help drive progress throughout the value chain. These areas are critical to the operations of cosmetics companies and their related impacts, ensuring that the industry can make maximum progress towards optimizing production and sustainable consumption. Going forward, Cosmetics Europe will continually review and strengthen its sustainability commitments to reflect changing societal demands and the needs of the planet, as well as to align with EU standards.

Through the initiative, Cosmetics Europe will provide world-class tools and guidelines to help companies meet their sustainability commitments. Annually, the association plans to report on general action against commitments to demonstrate industry progress and positive environmental impact.
