DS Smith and Multivac present ECO Bowl

June 16th, 2020

Multivac y D. S. Smith have come together to design and produce ECO Bowl, an innovative solution for fresh food in modified atmosphere made of corrugated cardboard. DS Smith and Multivac have created a strategic collaboration to ensure that the ECO Bowl solution has the highest scalability, both for food manufacturing customers and for supermarket chains across Europe.

ECO Bowl is a 100% recyclable tray made in corrugated paperboard, covered with a thin plastic sheet and with a sealing cap made of the same material, which is 85% less plastic compared to conventional trays.

To eliminate excessive packaging, the ECO Bowl's plastic sealing cap and film can be easily detached from the tray, allowing the tray to be recycled separately.

ECO Bowl is designed to be compatible with Multivac thermoforming and heat sealing machines, guaranteeing a shelf life equivalent to that of conventional packaging for fresh food with modified atmosphere or even longer.

ECO Bowl has already started market trials together with Amidori. The German producer of alternative meat products made with vegetables chose ECO Bowl and implemented this solution at the end of 2019.
