In less than 4 years the Packaging Cluster has brought together the main packaging agents that operate at different points in the value chain (raw material suppliers, machinery manufacturers, packaging manufacturers, end brands and research centers), working together on different strategic challenges.
The cluster facilitates Catalan and multinational companies to cooperate and work towards common goals. In this sense, companies such as Comexi and Bossar machinery manufacturers; packaging manufacturers such as DS Smith and Triana Packaging & Pharma; or brands such as Nestlé and Henkel, among others1, compete and at the same time work as a team, with the aim of strengthening the packaging ecosystem in Catalonia and reinforcing its global positioning.
The last two additions to the cluster have been the manufacturer of cosmetic and pharmacy products Mesoestetic, as well as the manufacturer of machinery for blister packaging and thermoforming Hamer, which has represented the entity's 50th partner. Artur Costa, President of the Packaging Cluster, considers that: "the new incorporations will facilitate the activation of new innovation projects in sectors as important to the industry as pharmaceuticals and doctors" and celebrates the consolidation of the entity after the first years of lifetime.
With these additions, the Packaging Cluster follows its growth plan envisaged by the Board of Directors, which sets: to reach the number of 74 partners by the end of 2018; increase the number of projects; grow the entity's billing; consolidate specialized training; and promoting strategic change projects in areas such as the circular economy and industry 4.0.
Packaging Cluster and the Catalonia Clusters Program
The Packaging Cluster was established in October 2012 with the aim of improving competitiveness in the world of packaging, through collaboration between companies and entities in the field. The entity is a member of the ACCIÓ Catalonia Clusters program, which promotes the grouping of companies and entities in the same sector that share a platform to grow, generate critical mass, share challenges and project themselves internationally.
