The CitySens biophilic planter, the Enplast three-layer drum, and the Unnom modular bench They are the winners of the Rethinking Plastic Awards, delivered within the framework of Equiplast, held at Fira Barcelona from June 2nd to 5th.
The award in the 'Construction and Furniture' category went to Motus, by CitySens Lab. This line of planters is designed and produced using a biophilic approach, a trend in architecture and interior design aimed at reconnecting people with nature. Made from 100% recycled plastic from post-consumer waste, these planters are self-watering and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Enplast has received the award in the sustainable plastic packaging category for its three-layer industrial drum produced with 50% post-consumer recycled material. This technology allows for the use of recycled material in the middle layer of the container without compromising its properties.
Finally, the special Rethinking Plastic award for circularity went to ARTdECO, modular benches developed by Unnom. Made entirely from recycled plastics, including materials from Tetra Pak cartons, these pieces of street furniture are designed for easy assembly, repair, and reuse.
The Rethinking Plastic showroom, open to Equiplast visitors during the trade fair, showcased a selection of more than a dozen real-world applications highlighting the potential of recycled, recyclable, or renewable plastics. The exhibition included initiatives covering the entire material lifecycle, from the valorization of agricultural or post-consumer waste to its conversion into high-value-added products with performance comparable to conventional plastic materials.
