La Association of Graphic Design and Visual Communication, ADG-FADOn June 11th, the Nit ADG Laus was celebrated, the major event where the awards are presented. ADG Laus Awards for Graphic Design and Visual Communication.
Awarded since 1964, these prizes reached their 56th edition this year with over 1.300 projects submitted. A total of 479 projects were recognized, distributed as follows: 1 Grand Laus; 1 Young Talent; 37 Gold Laus; 67 Silver Laus; 85 Bronze Laus; and 288 Inbook Laus. The ADG Laus Honorary Award was presented to the graphic designer and painter. Pilar VilluendasWhile GG Publishing He received the ADG Laus Companies and Entities Award, two honorary awards chosen by a committee of experts made up of recognized members of the creative, communication and cultural journalism sectors.
Pilar Villuendas received the award “for her profound social and political commitment, and for the value of the message in her work, especially in the context in which it was produced. For the power of a message that remains fully relevant today and for championing design as a tool for social transformation. Her work is marked by the use of a clear and accessible visual language, conceived from and for people. Her career stands out for its cross-disciplinary approach that connects art, design, and illustration, with a rich, free, and timeless visual language.”
Furthermore, the award to Editorial GG was granted “for its sustained work in disseminating design and visual culture, with undeniable relevance for over a century. The profession has been shaped by its publications, which have made theory accessible with rigor and clarity. Its project stands out for its interdisciplinary approach and collaboration with specialized design professionals. Content and format coexist with excellence in its catalog. Founded in Barcelona, it maintains an international perspective that makes it a global benchmark.”
Categories of the ADG Laus Awards
In total, and as a new feature this year, the awards are divided into nine categories: Editorial Design and Art Direction; the newly launched Typography category; Packaging; Branding and Environmental Graphics; Graphic Communication and Advertising; Digital; Audiovisual; Aporta; and Students.
Within each category, the projects, presented in different sections, compete to first be included in the selected list or Inbook, and subsequently to win one of the following awards: Bronze Laus, Silver Laus, or Gold Laus. Those awarded a Gold Laus in each category can go on to win a Grand Laus, and in the case of students, a Young Talent award. The distribution of the awards is the responsibility of the different juries for each category, made up of prestigious professionals from the sector, both national and international, among whom this year are: Felipe Rocha (Porto Rocha), Dan Witchell (Koto), Astrid Stavro, Marga Oller (Mucho), Andreu Balius, Ian Gehlaar (FailFast), Rober Alonso (Cuchillo) and Laura Murtra (La Casa de Carlota), among others.
This year, the competition categories and sections have been updated to better reflect the realities of the industry. For example, a Typography category has been created with a dedicated jury to evaluate the projects; a Commercial Spot section has been added; and projects that fit the description of Television Broadcast have also been considered, among others.
Among the main award winners this year, in addition to the awards for Pilar Villuendas and Editorial GC, the following stand out: Grand Laus Audiovisual for “Hornbach – No Project Without Drama”, from the agency HeimatTBWA and Canada for Hornbach Baumarkt, and the Young Talent Contributes for “Haptic” by SHIFTA by Elisava
During the ADG Laus Night, held at the Disseny Hub Barcelona, the remaining Silver and Bronze award-winning projects, as well as Inbook and selected projects, were also presented.
