Technicaps and Carbios were the winners of the LUXE PACK in green awards, which were presented at a ceremony held on October 1 in Monaco.
For the two award categories, Eco-Designed Packaging Solution and CSR Initiative, seven finalists were selected from 58 nominations. The nominees presented their proposal to a committee of experts who selected the winners.
Technicaps He took the prize for Re-Feel, a refillable jar for skincare products made in France and developed in collaboration with Pochet Group and Cilkoa. This innovation is the first refillable solution of its kind that eliminates the need for a plastic liner. The container features a mono-material lid made from recycled or bio-based plastic, produced by Technicaps or Qualipac, owned by Pochet. The cellulose refill cup, also produced by Technicaps, eliminates plastic in favour of Cilkoa’s mineral-based barrier treatment, which protects the material from oil and water. The jar itself is a lightweight, curved glass container made by Pochet du Courval, incorporating 15% recycled glass. All Re-Feel components (lid, jar and refill cup) are designed to be recyclable in existing recycling streams.
Carbios cwon the award for the best CSR initiative for its project biorecycling plant, designed to achieve full circularity of PET. The French biotechnology company developed an encapsulated enzyme that enables the biodegradation of PLA-rich packaging. The facility is set up to process 50.000 tonnes of PET waste per year. Both food-grade and non-food-grade packaging can be recycled into food-grade packaging without the need for additional virgin PET.
