Grupo Calvo presents the innovation «Vuelca Fácil»

January 26, 2021

Calvo Group has presented the innovation project «Easy Dump», with which it introduces a new form of production, packaging and consumption of tuna, more efficient, sustainable and adapted to consumer demands.

For Enrique Orge, CEO in Europe of Grupo Calvo, «With this launch we have literally broken 'the mold' with a new way of manufacturing, presenting and taking canned tuna. But it is much more, the new «Vuelca Fácil» packaging and the Real Peel® technology that makes it possible, is Grupo Calvo's most important commitment in the last 20 years to reinvent the category of canned fish».

«Vuelca Fácil» joins other innovations introduced by Grupo Calvo in the market throughout its 80-year history, such as the round can or the three-can pack. «We are always looking for opportunities to provide quality, differentiation and novelty. «Vuelca Fácil» is our latest innovation and I dare say that it is one of the most important in the history of the company ", he says Mane Bald, CEO of Grupo Calvo.

In a first phase, "Vuelca Fácil" will be available in the Spanish market to progressively extend it to the rest of the markets in which the company operates. «The short-term future involves the launch of the first tuna references with the new packaging and their presentation to our customers. In the medium term, we are working on extending the skills acquired at our plant in Europe to the facilities In America» Mané Calvo points out.

Packaging

The new packaging is the most visible result of a project of industrial transformation endowed with 30 million investment in the last 4 years. Four are the main characteristics of the new can: easy dump, which allows to extract 100% of the product in a simple way; an easier and safer opening with a flexible aluminum cover; reducing the amount of oil while maintaining the amount of tuna; and the greater juiciness of the product. For this, Grupo Calvo has developed Real Peel® technology

The improvements are also transferred to the field of sustainability with a contribution to climate change 35% lower compared to the traditional product. The right dose of oil is one of the main environmental advantages, with a reduction of 15 net grams per can, while maintaining the amount of tuna. «We know that 3 out of 4 consumers do not add the oil that comes from cans to their plate and, at least 37% of them, declare to throw it down the drain, therefore, it was essential to reduce the oil that was not adding value to the consumer », Declares MAriví Sánchez, Director of Sustainability and Communication at Grupo Calvo. Likewise, «Vuelca Fácil» meets the sustainability objectives of the Responsible Commitment 2025 plan, for which all the tuna marketed by the company before 2025 will come from responsible and sustainable fishing.
