III Edition of the BASF award for the best circular economy practice in Spain

June 7th, 2021

El Basf Group and Club of Excellence in Sustainability  EFE Green as a media partner, they have opened the call for the third edition of the awards to the best circular economy practice in Spain, some awards whose objective is to recognize those projects and initiatives that contribute to circularizing the economy.

The circular economy is one of the great challenges for BASF; Since 2018, Basf has been working on the Chemcycling project, which consists of chemically recycling plastic waste to turn it into a secondary raw material to replace fossil resources. With this technology, complementary to mechanical recycling, savings in CO2 emissions are achieved, a quality of materials equal to that of virgin plastic and provide a solution to those wastes that are difficult to recycle mechanically (mixed plastic waste, plastics with waste or the multilayer food packaging).

On the consolidation of these awards, Carles navarro, Managing Director of Basf Española, commented: “At Basf we are firmly committed to the circular economy and sustainability. On the one hand, we make efforts to circularize our own industrial processes and, on the other, as a chemical company, we research and develop solutions for others to find their way to the circular model. Any initiative aimed at promoting new models, products and services of these characteristics that are beneficial for society and the environment, will have an ally in BASF. Now more than ever it is important to create chemistry for a sustainable future ”.

The awards have 6 categories that aim to value the most outstanding initiatives in circular economy that are being carried out in Spain: better public initiative; best circular practice in large companies; best circular practice in SMEs; best circular start-up; best practice in academia and best practice in outreach.

The call is aimed at research projects and initiatives that contribute to the circularization of the economy and that face the challenge of limited natural resources through the different circular business models.

The deadline for receiving applications, which began today, will be open until next 16 of July 2021. The basis of the prizes are available here.
