International paper announced the signing of an agreement for the acquisition of Grau Containers, a family packaging company based in Spain.
Eric Chartrain, CEO of the corrugated cardboard packaging from International Paper in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), said: “Envases Grau is a well established company known both for its excellent service and the quality of its products. This acquisition complements our current network of packaging plants and expands the size and weight of our business in Spain, where demand for boxes is expected to continue to grow. With this operation we will increase our capacity and possibilities for high quality printing, which will allow us to offer a better service to customers and strengthen our position in the fresh fruit and vegetable market ”.
Envases Grau has a modern conversion plant and two assembly centers in eastern Spain. The company currently manufactures 15.000 tonnes per year of corrugated cardboard and wooden packaging, and has a workforce of around 70 employees. This investment is part of International Paper's commitment to corrugated packaging in the EMEA region. International Paper recently completed the conversion of its paper mill in Madrid to manufacture lightweight recycled paper that supports its corrugated cardboard packaging business in EMEA.
