ASPACK begins a new stage with Josep Maria Berga at the head of the association. In this interview, he shares his vision for the next four years, highlighting the main objectives of his mandate: the dissemination of key information, the reinforcement of ASPACK's leadership, the attraction of talent and the promotion of innovation. In addition, he analyses the challenges facing the sector in a context of growing demand for sustainable solutions and digital transformation.

Could you briefly introduce yourself?
As for my career, I started my working life in the financial and insurance sector. However, in March 1993, I was convinced to make a change and enter the exciting world of Graphic Arts. Initially, we produced both cases and catalogues, but we soon decided to focus exclusively on Packaging.
Today, at Alzamora GroupWe have three production plants in Spain, Portugal and England.
I must add that, together with my colleagues on the Board of Directors at ASPACK, we will work to ensure that the sector receives the recognition and appreciation it truly deserves.

What are the main objectives of your mandate for the next 4 years?
We intend to work on four fundamental axes to strengthen and grow our sector: Dissemination of sectoral and legislative information
We will keep our partners informed about market trends, regulatory developments and strategic opportunities, thereby facilitating agile and informed decision-making.

drive innovation
We will support technological development and digital transformation in our companies, promoting the sustainability and competitiveness of the sector through the

Strengthening ASPACK's leadership

Attracting and retaining talent in the sector
We will implement initiatives to attract new professionals, improve specialized training and foster an attractive environment that encourages the development and retention of talent.

drive innovation
We will support technological development and digital transformation in our companies, promoting sustainability and competitiveness in the sector through innovation.

These objectives reflect our commitment to the growth and excellence of the sector, ensuring its sustainability and competitiveness in the coming years.

What do you think are the main challenges facing the sector in the short and long term?
The cardboard packaging sector, represented by ASPACK, faces a positive but challenging 2025 outlook. On the one hand, the growing demand for sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable packaging solutions is driving the use of cardboard over less environmentally friendly materials such as plastic.
However, the sector must also overcome significant challenges. These include the pressure to innovate in materials and processes to comply with increasingly strict environmental regulations to satisfy increasingly conscious consumers. Added to this are the rising costs of production, energy and raw materials, as well as the need to improve efficiency in all aspects. Digitalisation and automation will play a key role in achieving greater competitiveness and sustainability. In short, 2025 will be a year of adaptation, in which regulations, innovation, sustainability and automation will mark the future of cardboard.
