L'Oréal presents its sustainable goals for 2030

July 6, 2020

L'Oréal launches your new sustainability program 'L'Oréal for the future', which sets the Group's ambitions for 2030.

L'Oréal is accelerating its transformation towards a business model that respects planetary boundaries. By 2025, all L'Oréal facilities will be carbon neutral, improving their energy efficiency and using 100% renewable energy. By 2030, 100% of the plastic used in the packaging of L'Oréal products will be recycled or bio-based and L'Oréal will reduce all its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% per finished product, compared to 2016 .

In addition, through a plan launched in May 2020, L'Oréal will allocate 150 million euros to tackle more pressing social and environmental problems.

The Group has defined new quantifiable objectives for 2030, to fight against climate change, which it already does through the “Science Based Targets” initiative, but now it goes one step further, by addressing three other environmental problems: preservation of biodiversity , sustainable water management and circular use of resources.

In order to empower its consumers to make more sustainable decisions, L'Oréal has developed a rating system for the environmental and social impact of its products, which gives a score on a scale from 'A' to 'E' , with 'A' products considered "the best in their category" in terms of environmental impact. The method has been endorsed by independent scientific experts and the data has been verified by Bureau Veritas Certification. The first brand to implement this new methodology from 2020 is Garnier, with your hair care products. The system will gradually be extended to other L'Oréal countries, brands and product categories.

«L'Oréal's sustainable revolution is beginning a new era. The planet faces unprecedented challenges and it is essential to accelerate our efforts to preserve it and make it a safe place for all humanity. We will do so in our own business operations and in our contribution to society at large. We know that the biggest challenges are yet to come and L'Oréal will stay true to its ambition: to work within the limits of the planet, "he says. Jean-paul agon, President and CEO of L'Oréal.
