Raíces Ibéricas Wineries expands its collection The Blackboards with the launch of Atheist Vineyard, a new wine from a village made with grenache from vineyards located in the town of Atea, in the Calatayud Designation of Origin.
This new addition joins a family of wines that was born with a clear objective: to show how this variety can offer very different expressions depending on where it grows. Altitude, orientation, climate, and slate soils are the elements that shape each of the wines in the collection.
The new wine comes from vines over 40 years old, grown between 900 and 990 meters above sea level, in one of the highest locations in the region. Under these conditions, the Garnacha grapes undergo a slower ripening process, marked by significant temperature variations between day and night, which helps preserve the freshness and aromatic expression of the variety.
The production process combines a seven-day fermentation, followed by a 25-day post-fermentation maceration and a six-month breeding Aged in 225-liter barrels, the result is a deep cherry-red Garnacha with aromas of ripe red fruit, plums, and subtle mineral notes. On the palate, it displays a juicy, medium-bodied profile with an elegant finish, where the altitude and character of the vineyard are clearly expressed.
The Blackboards It has become one of the most representative collections of Bodegas Raíces Ibéricas. Its origin lies in the Garnacha vineyards planted on slate soils of Calatayud, an area where the Viticulture is developed under demanding conditionswith small plots, old goblet-trained vines, steep slopes and altitudes that can exceed 1.100 meters.
Each wine in the collection takes its name from the village it comes from and seeks to reflect the personality of that specific place. Currently, the family includes wines such as Viña Acered, Viña Alarba, Viña Castejón and now, Atheist VineyardAll of them united by the garnacha grape as a common thread, but differentiated by the influence of their environment.
