Packaging machinery in Italy increases its turnover

Italian manufacturers of packaging machinery they have once again passed the 8.000 billion euro mark. According to preliminary figures compiled by the MECS Research Department - Utop (Italian Association of Packaging Machinery Manufacturers), the sector has reached a global turnover of 8.435 million euros in 2021, 8% more than the result registered in 2020. This figure is higher than the turnover of 2019 and consolidates the position of the industry after the pandemic.

Specifically, national sales of Italian packaging machinery manufacturers fell by 18% to 2.035 million euros, while exports, which have always been the strong point of the sector, grew by 5% year-on-year to 6.400 million euros. euros.

However, the return of industrial plants to full capacity is accompanied by an average 30% increase in production costs. Businesses face high raw material costs, higher prices and component delivery delays, more expensive land and sea transportation, and a disproportionate increase in the cost of energy for operating factories.

Despite the almost 7 months of assured production in 2022 estimated by MECS, the current global situation is likely to have a negative impact on the sector and slow down the recovery of the Italian economy.
