Spanish companies implemented in 2012 more than 3.000 measures to make their packaging more sustainable

July 26, 2013

Ecoembes works with packaging companies to promote their packaging to be more sustainable. The balance of the first year of the V Prevention Plan, started in 2012, shows that more than 2.400 companies have participated, 67 more than the previous year.
These companies, of which 77% are SMEs and the remaining 23% are large companies, have implemented a total of 3.192 eco-design measures that contribute to reducing their environmental footprint. This is very positive data that shows that they are increasingly committed to optimizing packaging.
Thanks to these prevention measures, in 2012 alone, 30.000 tons of raw materials, one million MWh of energy and five million cubic meters of water have been saved, also avoiding the emission of 90.000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Companies are increasingly aware of the importance of creating environmental awareness, thus allowing us to take better care of our environment.

Ecoembes (www.ecoembes.com) is the non-profit organization that coordinates the recovery and recycling of plastic containers, cans and briks, as well as cardboard and paper containers, throughout Spain.
