July 1, 2020

The global network World Design Weeks, founded in 2016 by the design weeks of Barcelona, Helsinki, Holland, San Francisco, Toronto, Mexico City, Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo, has decided to move the office that until now was in Helsinki to Barcelona.

Barcelona Center of Disseny It will host the headquarters in its offices, located in the Disseny Hub Barcelona, thus reinforcing the strategic weight of this facility that has the will to represent, develop and expose the city's creative talent on a local and international scale.

This change has also coincided with changes in the positions of its Board of Directors. Thus, as of last May, the presidency of the World Design Weeks is assumed by Isabel roig, General Director of Barcelona Center de Disseny and Barcelona Design Week.

On the other hand, the vice-presidency is assumed by Emilio Cabrero, director of Design Week Mexico, and the Secretariat of the association, Ingrid Van del Wacht, International & Public Affairs of the Dutch Design Week. The rest of the Board members are completed by representatives of the Helsinki, Los Angeles, Bogotá, Seoul, Beijing and Tokyo design weeks.

This association that brings together 40 design weeks and festivals from around the world, faces the common challenge of all its members to rethink strategies for holding events normally with a large influx of public, both local and international, which now some of them must become 100% digital format. Collaboration and the exchange of experiences and good practices will be essential in the coming months.
