Mario Eskenazi

La Association of Graphic Design and Visual Communication (ADG-FAD), organizing entity of the ADG Laus Awards for Graphic Design and Visual Communication since 1964, awards the award Honor Laus 2025 a Mario Eskenazi, for being the living essence of graphic design and an indisputable reference who has profoundly influenced the discipline and the industry. His work has not only defined a style but also defined a way of understanding design: rational, essential, and timeless. Through his training, Eskenazi has also taught generations of designers the importance of the concept as the origin of all creation.

This year, as the ADG Laus Awards celebrate their 55th edition, the organization pays tribute to the career of Mario Eskenazi, who has built an unmistakable visual language, capable of evolving without losing its identity. His work has contributed to democratizing design and making it accessible, understandable, and useful for everyone.

The Laus de Honor Award recognizes a career that has left its mark on the profession and on contemporary visual culture, and has served as a source of inspiration for future generations.

The jury for the 2025 ADG Laus de Honor Award is composed of a committee of experts chosen by the association each year, including professionals from the design, communication, and cultural sectors.

Mario Eskenazi: a visual language capable of evolving without losing its identity

A leading figure in contemporary graphic design in Spain, Mario Eskenazi was born in Buenos Aires in 1945, where he studied architecture, something that profoundly influenced his understanding of graphic design, providing him with a structural and rational vision that is reflected in all his work.

Throughout his career, Eskenazi's work has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including international recognition such as the Type Directors Club of New York, a Grand Laus, Communication Arts (San Francisco, USA), D&AD, Art Directors Club (New York), the National Design Award (2000) and the Cadena del FAD – Mestres (2014).

Based in Barcelona since the late 70s, one of his first major contributions was the creation of the graphic identity for Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), a project that represented a complex challenge: creating a functional, accessible, and coherent visual identity for the public service it represented. His proposal became an example of how design can improve both communication and the user experience.

Since then, he has worked for prestigious brands and institutions, such as the visual identity of Banc Sabadell, a project that redefined the bank's image with a modern, clean, and functional approach. He has also collaborated with institutions such as the Catalan Railways, Barcelona City Council, and the Picasso Museum, always providing a vision that combines conceptual rigor and creativity. In these projects, his hallmark is a minimalist design, with great attention to detail and a restrained color palette that reinforces the clarity and effectiveness of the message.

Eskenazi also excels in the academic and training fields, where he teaches classes and lectures at institutions such as EINA, Elisava, and Escola Massana.

Since 1997 it has been part of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI).
