The Food and Beverage Carton Alliance

The Food and Beverage Carton Alliance -FBCA- is the result of the merger of The Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment -ACE- and EXTR:ACT, two European associations dedicated to Promote the use of cardboard for beverages and food as a sustainable packaging solution, as well as to ensure the collection and recycling of these containers.

With ambitions to expand beyond Europe, FBCA aims to represent food and beverage carton manufacturers and their carton suppliers in driving sustainable packaging solutions that improve food safety, reduce waste and foster low-carbon circular economies.

Cartons for food and beverages are essential components of resilient food systems. By harnessing renewable resources and continuously improving environmental protection, these packages play a key role in extending the shelf life of perishable foods, reducing waste and ensuring safety and quality for consumers.

“Our industry is continually working to design fully renewable and sustainable packaging solutions that meet the needs of both consumers and the planet,” he says. Patrick Verhelst, President of FBCA“We are excited to grow globally and promote the role of food and beverage cartonboard in building a more resilient, low-carbon future.”

New Board of Directors
The FBCA Board of Directors, representing its five founding members, is comprised of:

Patrick Verhelst, President of FBCA and Senior Director of Business Development at Elopak.
Ulrika Wedberg, Vice President of FBCA and Executive Vice President of Sustainability and Public Affairs at Billerud.
Karina Boers, Head of Sustainability Development at SIG.
Tamara Bullock, Director of Corporate Affairs for Europe and America at Tetra pak.
Erik Hallberg, Vice President of Coating, Converting and Digital Technology at Stora Enso.

“Through FBCA’s Expertise, Advocacy and Communications centres we will provide the data and standards needed to lead the way in sustainability advancements,” he says. Annick Carpentier, Executive Director of Global Advocacy at FBCA. “We look forward to working with international partners to drive a circular bioeconomy and maximise functionality and efficiency throughout the packaging lifecycle.”

FBCA brings together industry leaders and global players to ensure the long-term viability of the food and beverage carton sector by optimising the lifecycle performance of food and packaging systems. The new association will therefore provide its knowledge, experience and leadership to develop robust regulatory frameworks for food packaging worldwide.

FBCA is headquartered in Brussels.
