Worlds created a new solution secondary paper packaging to wrap containers food and drinks, replacing the plastic shrink film that until now was the standard solution in the sector.
The new paper solution, TrayWrap, is made with Mondi's Advantage StretchWrap and, in this release, is being used for a coffee brand in order to keep 12 packages of coffee grouped during transport throughout Sweden.
The paper wrapper keeps the coffee packets securely attached, stuck with 4-6 adhesive dots to the bottom of the existing corrugated tray. Pre-punched folding points ensure stability on each open side, allowing products to be viewed, stacked, transported and then quickly and easily unpacked for sale.
Advantage StretchWrap is a 100% kraft paper made from renewable resources. It is unlined, fully recyclable and easy for retail customers to dispose of in Europe's existing paper recycling streams. This product has a unique combination of mechanical properties. While it has high strength and excellent puncture resistance, it features very good stretchability, making this solution also suitable for grouped packaging applications, in line with future regulatory requirements in Europe.
Working closely with die, Mondi has been able to ensure that existing machinery can be adapted to create this new solution: the technology used is similar to that used in film technology, making it easy for food and drink producers to modify existing processes rather than Invest in new machines. Extensive independent testing has proven the solution's effectiveness.
Meurer's Paper Hood Machine, PHM, uses inline paper technology that has greater resistance against mechanical stress, being able to efficiently handle a wide range of paper grades, including Mondi's Advantage StretchWrap, as well as various tray formats.
Larsgoran Berglund, Business Development Manager Kraft Paper at Mondi, states: “Our goal is to continue innovating and offering solutions that work for the product, the customer and the environment. By working closely with Meurer, we jointly establish a path to sustainability that is convenient for customers, supporting them in achieving their own sustainability goals.”
Jens Averbeck, Senior Global Key Account Manager, Meurer adds: “We are delighted to be working with Mondi, developing solutions that will provide food and beverage producers with effective and safe packaging solutions that reduce or replace unnecessary plastic. “This is just one example of how effective paper can be in securing goods, and we look forward to working with more food producers with this product and process, addressing the current challenges of FMCG industries.”
