Wine from San Vicente de la Sonsierra

Hacienda Lopez de Haro, the Rioja house of the wine company Vintage, throw your Wine from San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a village wine with which to pay homage to the landscape, history and "terroir" of this town that treasures several centuries of winemaking tradition. This wine comes from Tempranillo and Mazuelo vineyards located exclusively in San Vicente and is made in the winery also located in the same town, according to the regulations of the Rioja Regulatory Council.

This homage from Hacienda López de Haro to San Vicente de la Sonsierra is also carried to his label, which reproduces the layout of the town center of this town, the only Rioja town on the left bank of the Ebro that has witnessed the history of Rioja, whose vineyards are currently the most valued in the region.

“When, at the beginning of the two thousand, we decided to make San Vicente de la Sonsierra our town and the headquarters of our most important project, we already knew that it was the golden mile of Rioja Tempranillo, it is an exceptional territory due to its microclimate, its soils and its old vineyard heritage", explains Richi Arambarri, general director of Hacienda López de Haro, "but today, almost two decades later and after having produced many vintages here, we are even more convinced."

For its preparation, the technical team of Hacienda López de Haro, with Raul Acha Leading the way, he selected 18 different plots with vines, mainly Tempranillo and some Mazuelo (around 10%) of different ages, mostly old vines. In this first vintage, 2020, it was harvested in stages during the first weeks of October. After a 12-day maceration, it fermented in stainless steel tanks below twenty-five degrees to later spend fourteen months aging in French and Eastern European oak barrels.

"This wine combines the breadth of the Tempranillo variety with the acidity and tension provided by the Mazuelo, giving rise to enormous complexity," explains Raúl Acha. “It is intense, like a good Sonserrano wine, and reflects that mosaic of vines that is San Vicente”.
