Ovelar applies sustainable criteria in its facilities

to veil

to veil, a company specializing in the manufacture of Sleeves, is adopting quality and environmental policies in its facilities and proposes recyclable materials that reduce the use of raw materials and the energy used in their manufacture, in addition to generating less waste during their life cycle. All this without reducing the quality or finish of its sleeves and continuing its commitment to the circular economy and sustainability, pillars of its business strategy.

Ovelar's environmental sustainability policy focuses on the continuous search for more sustainable production alternatives that respect the ecosystem, minimizing the generation of waste at source and introducing technological improvements that benefit the ecosystem.

An example of this is the solar installed in Ovelar, with which in 2021 they have achieved a standard carbon saving of 114,40 tons and have avoided 135,85 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to 186 trees planted. In addition, they have installed LED lights and have an efficient recycling process within the plant itself, with the separation of the different plastic materials, sleeves and wrapping bands of the containers, all through methods and proposals consistent with the environment and with the reduction of the carbon footprint (CO2).

Likewise, Ovelar, as a company certified in ISO 14001:2015, periodically promotes the awareness of its employees in the exercise of good environmental practices that favor responsible use of energy. And in order to promote environmentally responsible forest management, Ovelar from its Rolls division exclusively supplies paper certified in FSC ®, FSC® and PEFC Chain of Custody Certification, which it has had since the end of 2015.

More sustainable materials

In this sense, Ovelar offers its clients different alternatives of materials for the manufacture of sleeves, as is the case of PET, 100% recyclable thanks to its reduced density, which is 25% below the standard, and therefore has greater buoyancy, which facilitates its subsequent recycling. In addition, this material has light blocking properties of up to 80%, which prevents interior printing, reducing ink consumption. Also, being a white source material, it does not use titanium dioxide in printing, the most polluting ink.

Another of its solutions is opaque PET, with the maximum light-blocking properties (light transmission rate of less than 1%) and that allows a large ink load to be released from the sleeve, avoiding an increase in cost and allowing a high percentage of printed surface to be reduced. This material protects the contents of the container and is therefore ideal for food, dairy products, juices...

On the other hand, there is the post-consumer rPET, manufactured with 30% recycled material and offering similar characteristics to PET, with the addition of being totally sustainable and respectful of the environment.

In addition to the type of material, its thickness and density, there are other sustainable solutions that can be applied to sleeves. For example, including a line longitudinal pre-cut that facilitates the separation of the sleeve from the container for optimal recycling, thus achieving the least possible environmental impact, the reduction of ink consumption, use of low migration inks or the use of washable inks, which is interesting in the case of PET containers, since it allows the recycling of PET sleeves together with the container without the need to separate both beforehand.
