The BIO-VECTORS project, which has the participation of Laurentia, Pectro-FlexoColor, Smurfit Kappa and AIMPLAS (Technological Institute of Plastic), aims to develop a coating with insecticidal and repellent properties against flies and mosquitoes suitable for food contact to stop the spread of vectors or disease-transmitting organisms in the transport of goods in cardboard packaging.

The most sensitive type of transport of goods to be the origin of pests is that of horticultural goods and ornamental plants, since it is easy for them to contain eggs, larvae or adult insects in their content. In addition, the packaging of these goods is not stored in closed places but in open spaces with favorable conditions for a pest. All of this makes it much easier for some vectors to move during international transport.
