Plastic tax is postponed for one year

December 20th 2021

The Congress of Deputies has voted in favor of postponing the tax on non-reusable plastic packaging which is included in the new law on Waste and Contaminated Soils. The transactional amendment provides for a ten-month moratorium on the entry into force of the tax, so its validity will arrive at least on January 1, 2023.

The lack in the market of recycled plastic, which is exempt from this tax, would lead to a price increase to assume the new tax of 0,45 euros per kilogram on non-reusable plastic containers.

The Ecological Transition Commission has approved the project with a majority of 20 votes.
