FBCA -The Food and Beverage Carton Alliance- international organization representing food and beverage carton manufacturers and their suppliers, has appointed Sebastian Bartels new general manager.

Bartels joins the Alliance, dedicated to promoting the use of cartons for drinks and food as essential, renewable, and circular packaging, at a strategic moment that transcends its previous European scope to assume a global role in promoting resilient food systems and the transition toward a circular, low-carbon economy.

The renewed global alliance of the food and beverage carton industry welcomes a recognized leader in sustainability to drive an ambitious environmental and industrial transformation agenda.

“We are very happy to welcome Sebastian,” he said. Patrick Verhelst, President of the FBCA Board. “His deep knowledge of sustainability and extensive international experience in various sectors make him the ideal person to lead this new phase of FBCA. We trust that his appointment will be key to strengthening the Alliance's global reach, both in dialogue with international institutions and in the development of data-driven circular solutions,” Verhelst added.

Sebastian Bartels has more than two decades of experience in strategic leadership in sustainability, with experience in sectors such as packaging, logistics, manufacturing, consumer goods, and energy. He has held senior positions in various countries and is recognized for his ability to collaborate across business, politics, and society.

Prior to joining FBCA, Bartels led DEKRA's Sustainability Services division, managing a global portfolio of more than 500 services related to corporate sustainability, energy transition, and the circular economy. Previously, she was global head of quality and safety strategy at the transport and infrastructure group Deutsche Bahn.

His business experience is complemented by a solid institutional track record, with positions of responsibility in both national and international sector associations.

“Joining FBCA represents a unique opportunity,” said Sebastian Bartels. “Carton packaging for food and beverages is a key solution for reducing waste and ensuring safe and sustainable food systems. I look forward to helping strengthen the industry’s voice globally and accelerate innovation throughout the value chain.”

Bartels' appointment marks a new phase of strategic growth for FBCA, reaffirming its commitment to a safe, circular, and sustainable packaging model with a global focus.
