Seventh edition of the International Seminar on Sustainable Biopolymers and Composites of AIMPLAS

January 6, 2020

AIMPLAS has organized for March 4 and 5, 2020 the seventh edition of its International Seminar on Sustainable Biopolymers and Composites, aimed at raw material manufacturers, processing companies, machinery manufacturers, end users, companies dedicated to the management and treatment of plastic waste, public administrations with responsibilities in environmental policies and research centers, universities and public research organizations.
At this meeting, trends in biodegradable plastics and / or from renewable sources, innovations in biotechnology and the most sustainable options for the recovery of waste will be presented; the news regarding standardization, certification and life cycle analysis (LCA) as well as success stories of some leading companies.
To promote the debate on the challenges and opportunities of sustainable bioplastics and biocomposites, about twenty speakers will participate, divided into seven blocks during the two days.

More than 20 presentations
The meeting will start with a first block on Bioplastics and Bioeconomy in which the European Commission, European Bioplastics, ASOBIOCOM and AIMPLAS will explain what the current panorama is with market data and trends and will review national and European policies.
In the second session, the Catalan Waste Agency will address the role of bioplastics in waste management and DTU will address the optimization of bio products with life cycle analysis, while OWS and TÜV Austria Iberia will address the issue of certification and eco-labeling as an opportunity for companies to communicate the quality of their biodegradable products.
After the coffee break, a workshop will be held on the PERCAL project, which presents a solution to the organic remains of household waste, turning them into a source of new chemical products of great interest to the industry.
In the next block, companies that manufacture raw materials such as Fkur, Neste or Kuraray will present their latest developments. The sessions on day 4 will conclude with a table of success stories in sectors such as packaging or automotive by Ecoplas, Total Corbion and Covestro.
The sessions on March 5 will begin with a panel of experts from Carbiolice, CSIC and AIMPLAS who will talk about biotechnology, and more specifically the role of enzymes in biodegradation processes. Next, it will be the turn of the biorefineries, in which Biotrend, Novamont and Biópolis will address the sustainable production of biopolymers through microorganisms.
After lunch, there will be a workshop on the DAFIA project, in which research is being carried out to recover urban solid waste and organic waste from the fishing industry to obtain new products.
The end of the seminar will be a table of success stories led by TIPA-CORP, Plásticos Romero and Leistritz.
As in previous editions, the seminar will have an exhibition area. This edition is backed by the sponsoring companies: Leistritz, Total Corbion, BIO-FED, NESTE and Kompuestos ..
