Mandriladora Alpesa offers 100% sustainable products and the company is positioned in monomaterial sustainable packaging: 100% recycled cardboard.

"All our products are 100% sustainable"

What kinds of products are in the most demand? Currently our best-selling product is cardboard tubes. Although we foresee that in the medium and long term the main demanded product will be our development Upalet, a 100% recycled cardboard pallet and its entire portfolio of products such as Upalet 6 in 1 or Upalet Box Industry, since it is a completely aligned transport and logistics solution with sustainability, environmental care and awareness of climate change.

What part of your production is occupied by products for packaging in the food sector? We have 20 production lines among the three centers that we have located in Tavernes de la Valldigna (Valencia), Puente Genil (Córdoba) and Martorelles (Barcelona) and around 5 of them are directly or indirectly destined for the agri-food sector, whether they are tubes , rings, corners or cardboard pallets.

In its Upalet division they already manufacture 100% sustainable pallets. Do you plan to extend this trend to the rest of your products? All of our products are already 100% sustainable. However, we are carrying out actions that promote environmental care. For example, we are incorporating our own cardboard pallets, Upalet, internally for use by the company. Our goal is that this measure can be complete in a couple of years, although it is a laborious process because we want to extend this philosophy to all our customers and suppliers and thus reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

Their waste management has also changed ... Yes, a system that allows us to return the valuation in profits for the company, so we encourage other companies to carry out this action. It is a way of doing things right and converting what was an expense into income. Since 2015 we have registered our carbon footprint and commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment. Both for the activities carried out in the three plants –Tavernes de la Valldigna, Martorelles and Puente Genil- as well as company vehicles. A fact that we revalidated in 2016. Although we are not obliged to declare our C02 emissions because they belong to non-diffuse sectors, we believe that, to be a benchmark of sustainable company in the sector, we must be pioneers, actively participate and be present in both private activities as public in this sense.
We are also immersed in the creation of a Green Forest in our town, Tavernes de la Valldigna, in which other leading companies in sustainability at the national level have already agreed to participate, but we need to add greater efforts, so we encourage other companies from here to join this initiative. Finally, we also have our IPS certification.

Do you have any news planned for the second half of 2019? The novelties that we have planned are aimed at the entire range of Upalet products and solutions and at the customization of customers in this regard. It is still early to specify what the exact product will be, but they will be in this line and when they are released they will be seen in our product portfolio and fairs in which we participate. Alpesa is positioned in monomaterial sustainable packaging, 100% recycled cardboard, because in this way recycling is facilitated and we avoid multimaterial packaging. We have been working in this segment for many years and our positioning is there, so the new products and packaging solutions that we launch on the market will be in this line.
