HP and its global community of digital manufacturers are mobilizing their 3D printing teams

HP and its global community of digital manufacturers are mobilizing their teams of Print 3D, technology, experience and production capacity to develop critical parts to combat the pandemic of COVID-19. More than 1,000 3D printed parts have already been delivered to local hospitals.

HP 3D R&D Centers in Barcelona, Spain; Corvallis, Oregon; San Diego, California; and Vancouver, Washington are collaborating with partners around the world in a coordinated effort to increase production and meet the most pressing needs.

Initial applications that are validated and completed for industrial production include face masks, face shields, face mask adjusters, nasal swabs, hands-free door openers and respirator parts. HP is also coordinating with government, healthcare, and industry agencies in numerous countries to ensure a synchronized and effective approach.

HP's global network of manufacturing partners works to ensure that hospitals in all regions of the world can access 3D printed medical parts with the appropriate quality and safety standards.

Some of the first applications that are being validated and produced include:

· Hands-free door opener- Door handles are among the most infected objects in homes, hospitals, factories, and nursing homes. This adapter allows for an easier and healthier opening with an elbow to help slow the spread of the virus.

· Mask Adjuster- Many hospital employees must wear masks for long periods of time. This closure helps improve comfort and alleviate associated ear pain.

· Face shields: face shields are one of the most necessary personal protection items. Brackets to hold the protector and fit it comfortably to the user are a critical component.

There are many more applications that are in the testing and validation phase and are expected to start production soon, including:

· Camp fano: 3D printed parts for a mechanical bag valve mask (BVM), designed as a short-term emergency ventilation device in patients affected by COVID-19. This simplified design allows for a robust and less complex device, facilitating rapid production and assembly.

· FFP3 face masks- Effective protective equipment is required for medical providers to treat the expected volume of COVID-19 patients. HP is validating several hospital grade face masks and expects them to be available shortly.

Publicly available part designs
HP and its partners will make validated design files for many non-complex assembly parts available to the general public at this website for download. 3D designers and innovators who want to join the battle against COVID-19 will be able to contribute new applications and ideas in this website.
