Winter develops a fabric with recycled plastic

WINTER & COMPANY launches the first woven book cover material with recycled ocean plastic: TOILE OCEAN. The innovation is produced in collaboration with tide ocean SA (#tide), also based in Basel, and contributes to the cleanliness of the oceans.

Each year, more than 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into the oceans. The #tide company has specialized in the plastics recycling tied to the ocean. The company collects and classifies plastic waste in Southeast Asia, where there is a lot of pollution. Plastic waste is collected there by local employees, including many fishermen, with optimal working conditions, and transported to Switzerland in a controlled manner in terms of CO emissions.2. The collected plastic waste is turned into a granulate through a mechanical production process and finally turned into a thread, which is the main component of TOILE OCEAN.

After a year and a half of development, WINTER & COMPANY has created with TOILE OCEAN a innovative and sustainable coating material. The fabric, with a natural mottling, highlights its quality by the touch. The product, made primarily from ocean plastic, is woven with 100% recycled plastic waste and a water-based acrylic coating. The product is characterized by its great resistance.

TOILE OCEAN can be offset, screen printed or embossed. Its ideal applications are for book covers, premium packaging or menu cards. TOILE OCEAN is also recommended for hang tags, shopping bags or stationery. TOILE OCEAN is available from stock in six natural colors.

Furthermore, for every meter of TOILE OCEAN sold, 1% of the billing goes to clean water projects.
