Beiersdorf and Ball Corporation have ensured that all Beiersdorf aerosols in Europe are packaged in 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminum.
The initiative began with a pilot project in 2024, which, following its success, allowed for the full expansion of the use of these 100% PCR aluminum containers across the region last year. As a result, most NIVEA MEN spray deodorants and a selection of 8x4 aerosols now use these sustainable containers.
This transition allows Beiersdorf to significantly reduce emissions associated with its aluminum packaging. For Ball, this milestone also reinforces its leadership in Europe and demonstrates its extensive expertise in circularity and lightweight packaging, as part of its global commitment to science-based decarbonization goals.
Beyond the environmental benefits, this collaboration demonstrates the technical and commercial viability of using fully recycled aluminum on a large scale, reflecting both companies' commitment to responsible design and responsible business practices.
“This is more than just a packaging innovation; it’s a significant step towards true circularity and a major contribution to our Sustainability Agenda,” he stated. Kelvin Oecksler, Global Director of Packaging Development at Beiersdorf AG“We want to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045, and to do so, we must integrate solutions that make a real contribution not only to the planet, but also to our consumers and our business. Our strategic partnership with Ball more than meets that objective.”
“This achievement reflects our belief in the infinite potential of aluminum to drive a waste-free world,” he said. Victoria Marletta, Vice President of Personal and Home Care Sales at Ball Corporation“It is proof that sustainability and commercial success can go hand in hand, and it supports our global commitment to reduce absolute emissions by 55% by 2030.”
Aluminum is a circular material: it can be recycled again and again without losing quality. Recycling aluminum uses 95% less energy than producing it from raw materials, and approximately 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in circulation today. This milestone is a call to action for the industry: accelerate circularity, collaborate across the entire value chain, and adopt solutions that benefit both businesses and the planet. Together, we are creating packaging that meets consumers' sustainability expectations without compromising on quality or design. Ball continues to innovate with lighter packaging, advanced decoration, and future-proof solutions, reinforcing our commitment to a net-zero future.
