A new ITENE container for dry products

15, October, 2018

Un container that avoids insect pests and rancidity of dry products is the new proposal in which the Technological Institute of Packaging, Transport and Logistics is working (ITENE) with the OPTIDRY project, financed by the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The objective of the OPTIDRY project is the development of packaging materials with active double action systems. On the one hand, the containers will incorporate repellent agents for insect pests that prevent the infestation of food products such as pasta and rice, which will allow them to extend their useful life, improve their quality and guarantee their food safety. On the other hand, they will integrate oxygen absorbers to avoid rancidity in dry foods that can suffer degradation processes due to the presence of oxygen, such as snacks and nuts.
