A European network launches a call to select five projects to develop, test or scale bionanomaterials

A European innovation platform, made up of 14 improved pilot plants and complementary services to support technological and commercial advances, has launched an open call to select five projects that will be able to access its services for free to develop, test or scale bionanomaterials.

This test bed, made up of 14 pilot plants and complementary services in different European countries, has been launched within the framework of the European project BIONANOPOLYS, financed by the Horizon 2020 programme. As coordinator of BIONANOPOLYS (2021-2024), the technology center ITENE, specialized in packaging and packaging, will organize the opening event of the call to receive new case studies on February 17.

In a virtual conference in English, the capabilities and services offered by the test bed will be presented together with representatives of the technology center AITEX, based in Alicante and specialized in textiles; the consultant AXIA Innovation, based in Germany; the Center Technique du Papier (CTP) and the Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA) of France, and the Center for Nanotechnology and Technical, Functional and Intelligent Materials (centi) from Portugal, which are part of the project consortium.

Specifically, this platform open innovation, which will work through a single window, will be able to carry out new practical cases during the implementation of the project. Innovative ideas submitted must be related to bionanomaterials. It will also offer modeling and simulation activities, consulting services such as innovation management, business models, compliance with regulations and standards, and technology transfer.

Free services to develop or test nanomaterials

This event will open the call for Bionanopolys (open call) to which companies can present their applications until April 30. Subsequently, an evaluation committee will score all the proposals received, following the criteria described in the applicant's guide. Of all the proposals received and following the scoring scale and with total transparency, they will be selected at most five projects of companies, universities or specialized research centers, which will access for free, financed by the European Union through the project partners, and for a limited time to the BIONANOPOLYS test bed to develop biobased materials or validate those produced internally.

Specifically, five improved pilot plants will focus on the development of bionanomaterials from biomass, three pilot plants are dedicated to bionanocomposites and six plants will be focused on the manufacture of bio-based nanoproducts to reach a wide range of applications in different sectors. .

The Bionanopolys test bed may benefit companies dedicated to the production of biopolymerspaper cellulose, non-woven fabrics, foams or coatings, as well as the sectors of the packagingfarmingeatingcosmetologypharmacyhygiene, textile and 3D printing.

Additionally, the event will present the current scenario and business opportunities in the use of biobased nanomaterials for various sectors, such as packaging, cosmetics, medicine, foams, coatings, 3D printing, textiles, and cellulose paper.
