17th September 2024

Veralia

Every year, Veralia, European leader in the production of glass containers, presents the Wine and spirits market trends. Made this year with the Barcelona agency MorelsThe presentation aims to inspire and highlight key developments in the sector and future directions. By 2025, four major trends are emerging in response to more engaged consumers, seeking new experiences and prioritising well-being above all else. This studio will also be the occasion to introduce the new designs that Verallia's teams are ready to develop for their customers.

Reflecting the new practices of consumption of wines and spirits, the analysis of Trends 2025 It is read through the eyes of three different consumer profiles: “Consumer Profile that is shaping the new horizons of the market.”

- The Eco-Activists. Concerned about environmental challenges, they prefer brands committed to sustainability (local production, recyclable packaging, etc.).
- The Conscious ConsumersWith wellness-focused priorities, they seek out beverages that align with their holistic wellness goals (low alcohol content, infused with natural ingredients, etc.)
- The ExperientialistsConstantly searching for new, unique and memorable tasting experiences (atypical combination of flavours, moment of consumption, etc.).

Through these profiles, we observe four major trends, which illustrate the transformations initiated by the wine and spirits industry:

The return of ethics and sustainabilityBrands are now betting on authenticity and embracing the simplicity of packaging and its imperfections. Investments are being made in circuits dedicated to the reuse of bottles and unconventional ingredients are being used in order to respect the planet's resources.

Less alcohol, more well-being. Faced with strong demand, the market for low- and no-alcohol beverages is thriving, with complex flavors, functional ingredients and premium presentations full of vitality.

Tailored experiences. Through new flavours, the boundaries between different types of alcohol are blurred with the development of Ready to Drink (RTD), juice mixes with low-alcohol spirits and wine-based cocktails, among others. Brands are also relying on packaging to maximise the consumer experience and stimulate new flavours through bottles designed for individual consumption.

The search for added value. Aesthetics and sensorial design are being emphasised to create authentic luxury experiences, adopting a minimalist, silent luxury or virtual-inspired aesthetic. This search for added value is also reflected in the rise of limited editions and signature spirits.

“Understanding new consumer profiles and their preferences in terms of drinks and consumption occasions is crucial to ensuring lasting success. These new trends mark a real paradigm shift in our relationship with wine and spirits consumption. They translate into a strong consideration of environmental challenges by brands, a return to the values of nature and minimalism, while continuing to innovate in low-alcohol drinks, flavour combinations and bottle design. Glass is particularly well positioned to respond to these new demands. 100% and infinitely recyclable, it is the sustainable material par excellence. In addition, its inert nature allows the quality of drinks to be preserved, thus meeting the expectations of the most demanding palates, as well as the health of consumers. Its versatility offers unrivalled flexibility in terms of design, allowing the creation of unique and personalised experiences,” he explains. Elena Andia, Marketing Director of Selective Line.

In response to these trends, Verallia proposes new designs ready for launch:

Heritage. A timeless shape for premium spirits, tradition and modernity in a single design.
